Digital twins are virtual representations of physical assets that are created using real time data. The potential for digital twin cities is endless, from informing all aspects of civil engineering and city planning to aiding the vision of future infrastructure

In collaboration with the Wellington City Council, using their live city data, we developed this new space for interaction. Traditionally, large scale city visualisations were done using animations. Now, with the advancement of gaming technology, we can create interactive large scale city models with integrated data.

The Wellington City twin uses smart city technologies, with real-time data to provide:

  • Transportation statistics for bus, rail, ferry, bike and car
  • Air traffic visualisations
  • Cycle sensor data including how many trips were made in a time period, direction of travel, and which streets cyclists travel on
  • Car park availability
